A Winter of Travel: Freedom, Business, Lifestyle


Having just returned from my recent visit to Australia I was reflecting on how my life has changed in the last two years. It started with a decision to combine my years of diverse experience and study to serve women entrepreneurs all over the world, teaching them to combine Business and Lifestyle through my coaching.

Health And Wealth – Herbalife’s Winning Formula Against Obesity And Unemployment.


The most prominent International Nutrition company  Herbalife, is making strides against the war on obesity and unemployment  with unprecedented growth seen in the UK market. Herbalife won three categories at the annual Direct Selling Association (DSA) Awards. Daniel Spiller, a former pro-footballer, won the UK Top Direct Seller of the Year Award. He joined Herbalife in 2012 after friends recommended he try the products. Spiller says; “Once I found out some of the top athletes were using the products, I decided I would try them out.”

Herbalife has sponsored some of the top footballers in the world including LA Galaxy and David Beckham, Lionel Messi and currently, Christiano Ronaldo, 2x winner of the FIFA Ballon D’or.

Victoria Evans won Young Entrepreneur of the Year. Linda Mills, Director of the Direct Selling Association says; “Victoria has built a very successful direct selling business at the age of just 25. What’s even more impressive is that she’s done this while studying for a degree, supplementing the cost of her course with direct selling’.

Can The Sugar And Shake Your Cravings…


There are times when too much of a good thing can be great and then there are times when it is simply excessive. The occasional Starbucks tea and ginger biscuit had become a daily habit. So it was that I found myself reaching for  Sarah Wilson’s ‘I Quit Sugar’ book and started on the program. That was ten days ago.

Recent health reports have shown a marked increase in earlier onset of diabetes type 2 and heart disease. Research suggests that sugar may be the culprit and that it may be as addictive as cocaine whilst being as harmful as tobacco.

Sarah Wilson, a former editor of Australian Cosmopolitan, wrote about her research and personal experience on a low sugar program to treat her auto-immune disease. Her e-book turned into the New York Times bestseller ‘I Quit Sugar’.

Sarah says, “Quitting sugar is about eating the way we did before the age of industrial sugar. A hundred years ago we ate 1 kg of sugar a year – now we eat 60kg a year.”

One teaspoon of sugar = 4.2g. The World Health Organisation has recently updated guidelines for daily intake from 40g per day down to 20g (5 teaspoons). What you are actively looking to reduce is fructose, which converts directly to fat. It inhibits the immune system, upsets the mineral balance and is linked to early ageing and dementia.

Get started now:
1) replace sugar with healthy fats and protein
2) use the right oils and spreads – avoid all polyunsaturated fats such as sunflower oil and switch to organic butter and coconut oil instead
3) drink lots of water – at least two litres a day
4) do some exercise every day – 30 to 60 minutes
5) learn to read labels – choose foods with less that 5g of sugar per 100g.

Sarah devised an 8 week program to kick the sugar habit for good. Foods that are particularly helpful include coconut oil, cacao, cheese, chicken, chai tea, chia seeds, cinnamon, coconut water and coffee.

What to expect:
I went cold turkey and suffered withdrawal symptoms with flu-like muscle aches and headaches for the first 3 days. I persisted and less than two weeks into the program I am enjoying heightened energy levels, radiant skin and a better night’s sleep. I eat exactly what I want with an emphasis on organic vegetables and protein and am happy to say that I no longer crave the sweet stuff.

This is not a diet, it is a way of living without processed food. Three years from when she first started, Sarah’s new book ‘I Quit Sugar for Life’ is released in the UK this week.

Parlez-Vous M&S? – Twenty New Food Stores To Open In France.


Marks and Spencer Chief Executive Marc Bolland’s announcement that the retailer is planning to expand its French footprint with 20 stand-alone Food stores, saw shares rise 2.2% to 469.90p at the close yesterday. At an Investor Seminar in Paris, he announced an ambitious plan to drive international growth by opening 250 new stores in Western Europe, India, China, Russia and the Middle East.

Bolland said: “We are focusing on Flagship stores to deliver brand presence and stand-out. We also see great opportunities in fresh Food and Lingerie and Beauty concepts.”

The plans for Paris would make France it’s largest food market outside the UK. M&S hopes that the expansion will bring relief from the pain it has suffered in the over saturated UK market.

A new franchise partnership with SFH Invest will see three new on-street stores, trading from c.300 square metres, open this summer.

M&S’s International arm made profits of £120 million on sales of £1.1 billion last year. The new French Food stores will offer customers convenient access to a range of up to 2500 exceptional quality, fresh M&S products.

Stay Cool With The ‘Ice Queen’ Of French Cinema – Catherine Deneuve


At 70 and with more than 100 films to her credit, including the controversial ‘Belle De Jour’; the fiercely private Catherine Deneuve embodies French chic, aging well and being ‘bien dans sa peau’. She has been the muse for Yves Saint Laurent and the face of MAC, L’Oreal, Louis Vuitton and Chanel No.5, among others.

In her new film ‘On My Way’ she stars as Bettie, an aging beauty queen, dealing with a failed relationship and an ailing restaurant. She takes a road trip to clear her head. Along the way she picks up a passenger; her charming, rude but comforting grandson. The film is set in the lovely French scenery of rural Brittany.

Whilst she has had many relationships, Catherine has only been married once, at 21, to British photographer David Bailey. She has two children. A son Christian from her relationship with director Roger Vadim and a daughter, Chiara from her relationship with actor Marcello Mastroianni.

Nigella Lawson – The Taste of Success.


British celebrity chef Nigella Lawson is returning to British television screens in January In ‘The Taste’. The show aired in its original format in the US on ABC in January 2013. As in previews shows, Nigella will be seen tasting and enjoying great food. She says, “At my age, being thin is not a good look. Eating is my anti-aging remedy”.

French Women Don’t Get Facelifts


Mireille Guiliano first came to our attention when she famously invited Oprah to come stay with her to learn the secrets of why “French Women Don’t Get Fat.” This former CEO of Veuve Clicquot, the LVMH Moet Hennessy Louis Vuitton-owned Champagne house, launched a new genre of French ‘savoir faire.’

Subsequent publications included the “French Women Don’t Get Fat Cookbook”, “French Women For All Seasons” and her business sense and sensibility guide, “Women, Work & The Art of Savoir Faire.”

Guiliano shares her time between Manhattan, Paris and Provence. The 60-something writer attributes the youthful staying power of the French to their individualistic style and attitude. She says, “The difference is the U.S. is a ‘youth’ culture. France is not. Literally, here you are old after 30 and not in France. There is still respect for women in their 50’s.”

She writes, “Certainly in France, a woman in her forties and fifties is still alluring and seen as an object of desire and acts the part. She feels it and acts it, but doesn’t pretend she is ageless.”

A few tips from her book: 1. Attitude is key – Mireille calls attitude ‘the magic pill’ responsible for the major difference in youthful appearance of French women. Love and laughter save the day. 2. Dress for the age you are now. She says “Girlish looks for matue women are not something French women are keen on. With today’s choices, one does not have to dress old at any age.” 3. Less is more for makeup. “Once your face has noticeable wrinkles, don’t even think about makeup and moisturizers with glittery particles that draw attention. C’est tout.” 4. Eat “face friendly” food. This includes lots of vegetables, good protein, honey and a little bit of what you fancy; including chocolate and a glass of champagne. 5. Respect your skin. Moisturise religiously. France is a country of creams and treatments, often bought from the local chemist. Use preventative measures like UV protection to slow down the clock.
